Charity Sponsored Walk for the Animals

Thanks to everybody who took part in the 2011 Sponsored Walk, and for participating in such dreadful weather!  We hope you have dried out by now!

An update will appear here in the next week or two when we have the final totals of how much you have raised for the Animals.

Thank you for visiting our Charity Sponsored Walk for the Animals 2011 web page. This is our biggest event of the year and raises much needed funds for Cat Welfare Sussex and Sussex Pet Rescue.

Where and when?

The walk will take place on Sunday 4th September 2011 at 12 noon (all participants must register by 11.45am), and sets out from Hove Lagoon to Brighton Pier and Back - about five miles.  There's more information for walkers here.

This year is the twelfth walk and we are encouraging all on our local animal lovers to put on their walking shoes and take to the pavements to support our cause.

What are the Funds are being used for?

Cat Welfare Sussex and Sussex Pet Rescue are two local registered charities committed to saving animals in our area.

Both organisations provide food, shelter veterinary care and rehoming for the many unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs across the region.

Without the two charities’ input, many of these poor creatures would suffer a life on the streets. We have all seen the pictures of animals abroad - left to live rough and to breed indiscriminately. Inevitability, injury and sickness occur and thus public health issues then arise. The charities commitment and dedication helps to prevent these problems.

Whilst doing a very necessary environmental job in keeping our streets free from stray animals, it is worth noting that neither charity receives any grants or funding towards it work whatsoever, and none of the staff or helpers take a salary. All their time and hard work is given voluntarily.

The recent recession and general financial hardship has put extra strain on the charities incomes.

As well as the general costs of providing care for the animals - the two charities must raise a minimum of £3,000.00 pounds per month each just to pay veterinary fees.

Sounds good, how can I join in?

So if you want to have fun, get fit and help the animals at the same time please, please join us on this the 2010 Charity Walk.

If you find obtaining sponsorship difficult but still wish to join us, or bring your friends, then you can enter by paying a voluntary contribution per person on the day.

Wheelchair users are also welcome.

This year we are asking for group walkers to support us - This is a great way to advertise your business,
Organisation or School. We will provide a table for advertising leaflets and if you wish to wear promotional clothing feel free to do so. (We are not allowed to sell items on the day or to collect for any other organisation other than the two named charities.)

Do you work for a business or company that might be willing to match the amount raised by your Sponsors?

Is there a dress code?

To add a carnival theme to our walk we are encouraging walkers to wear Animal Themed Fancy Dress.

Great for children and adults alike but not essential!

You do not have to complete the whole walk. We realise that participants may not be able to walk the whole five miles. Please walk as far as you wish, for example to the King Alfred Leisure Centre and Back.

Dogs are welcome to walk but MUST BE ON A LEAD. Please insure that your dog is fit to walk the distance. If in doubt please consult your vet. Water for dogs will be provided at the checkpoints but please ensure that you have adequate supplies of fluids for both yourself and your dog.

Last year we raised a total of £11,000.00 with your help and perhaps the help of your friends and colleagues we might be able to reach a much needed £15,000.00

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON THE DAY !
